Beep 'n' Click

"Computing in Art" is a relative newcomer to the Tasmanian School of Art at Hobart. The Computing Studio in its current configuration has been in operation for a little over a year. Although not yet a formal course, over a hundred students from all areas and levels of the school are exploring the rapidly changing potentials of digital technology. The studio has a philosophy of integrating the methodology and approaches from other more traditional areas of the school with digital technology, while also keeping an eye on the future and the new modes of representation that digital technology will enable.

This, first exhibition from the Computing Studio entitled "Beep'n'Click", is about process. It seeks to challenge the stereotypical notions of "Computer Art", to present the computer as a conceptual tool. Art that uses digital technology as part of its process can be as diverse and unique as the individuals who utilise it.
